Hi, I’m Birdie!

I’m a sweet and gentle girl who likes to take my time exploring the world. My energy level is just right—medium! I love my daily walks, and my favorite days include playing fetch at the dog park. Running in the snow is the best—I get the cutest gallop/hop going that always makes my foster family smile!

When I first got resued, I was too scared to even walk around the block, but now, I love to explore the neighborhood. I love meeting other dogs, and I’ll even sit and wait to say hello. I’m happiest with calm friends, though, since overly hyper or barky dogs can make me a little shy.  I’m also proud to say I have spent a few weeks with several other dogs in a house, which isn’t easy for everyone.  I was a little grumbly indoors for the first day or two, but sooned warmed up and enjoyed having friends. There was even a kitty in that house and we got along great- he even tried to cuddle with me!

At home, I like to stay cozy on the couch, watching from my favorite spot. I warm up to people at my own pace, but once I feel comfortable, I’ll show you just how much love and affection I have to give.

I’m house-trained, but I’m still learning to love the crate. Cars? Not my favorite—I’ll need some positive experiences to help me feel more confident. I know basic commands like “sit” and “touch.” I need a patient family who can give me the right amount of encouragement.

I’d do best in a calm home with a patient owner who has some dog experience or is willing to learn.  I would love a confident dog sibling as a bonus.

If you’re looking for a sweet, wiggly-tailed companion who loves squeaky toys, snow gallops, and cuddles once I get to know you, I could be the perfect fit!

Birdie came to HART from the CATF Spay and Neuter Clinic in Maskwacis. Mama Birdie was rescued with her two pups who have since been adopted and now she’s ready to find her forever home. Birdie can be timid in new environments and in the car so sometimes she needs anxiety medications so it doesn’t feel so scary. Thankfully, she is gradually building her confidence and doesn’t have to take them as often! Birdie is up to date on DACPP, Bordatella, and Rabies vaccinations. Birdie is spayed and microchipped.

Birdie is working on her confidence in new situations, car rides and meeting new people. She frequents the dog park with her foster home and loves meeting dogs, although she prefers dogs that aren’t overly hyper. She knows some basic commands like sit and touch. Birdie would benefit from a calm home that will take things at her pace!
