Hi, I’m Murphy!

I’m a calm but playful guy who loves to stay busy throughout the day. Whether it’s chasing my ball, enjoying the outdoors, or going for a daily walk, I’m always up for a bit of fun. I get excited about treats and food, but I’m patient enough to wait for them.

I’m friendly and enjoy meeting new people. I can settle down quickly after a little excitement, though, and I’m quite gentle with everyone I meet. I also like meeting other dogs and am good in new situations.

When we’re out for walks, I might get a little nervous when loud trucks or buses go by, but I’m working on it. I’m getting better on the leash too, although I might pull a bit at first—once I calm down, I walk nicely by your side. I’m learning “heel” and can already sit, lie down, and stay. I understand “gentle” when it comes to taking treats, and I’m pretty good about listening when called.

I absolutely love belly rubs and massages. People always compliment my coat, and I’m always happy to soak up some attention. I would be thrilled to have a large fenced yard where I can play fetch, even in the cold weather. I’d be fine with other dogs or as your one and only, but I do enjoy being with my family and also know how to relax on the couch and take some space when needed.

I’d love to have a family who can give me the exercise I need, and someone strong enough to handle me if I spot a squirrel!

Murphy came into HART’s care as puppy and years after his adoption, he was surrendered back to hart as his family could no longer care for him. Murphy previously underwent TPLO surgery but unfortunately suffered an adverse reaction to the bone plate that was inserted. Once back into Hart’s care, Murphy promptly underwent another surgery to remove the plate and since that time, his leg has healed beautifully and is cleared to participate in regular activity. Murphy was also referred to a specialist to better understand the extent of his allergies. Murphy has since improved substantially with prescribed allergy medications. Murphy is up to date on DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies and is neutered and microchipped.

Despite TPLO surgeries having been proven to have consistent positive outcomes, Murphy’s adoptive parents will need to monitor Murphy’s weight/activities and adjust as he ages. Murphy’s adoptive parents will also need to be aware that his atopic dermatitis and allergies will require monitoring and treatment likely for the remainder of his life.
