hart relies on the hard work and the caring and compassion of volunteers.

hart is 100% volunteer run, we believe that each volunteer who contributes by fostering, fundraising, transporting, and the many other jobs we need done, makes a huge, very real difference in the life of our rescued dogs.

Volunteering requires dedication, reliability, and commitment. But more basic than that, it requires a love for the animals and their well being. When you volunteer, you give part of yourself, your time, your energy and your skills.

If you fit this description and you want to be part of the solution and support our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, rehome and reduce, please fill out a volunteer application and we will be in touch.

volunteer opportunities

Behavior team caseworker

The role of a caseworker is to provide behavior support for foster homes and foster dogs in areas such as house training, crate training, resource guarding, leash pulling, etc. Requirements of this role are excellent communication skills, reliability, commitment, flexibility, and to a lesser extent, access to transportation, whether a vehicle or public transportation and computer literacy. While training experience would be beneficial, it is not required.

Foster home or adoption home screening

Screening foster home or adoption applications by phone. A “script” of questions to ask is provided and phone screeners then provide a summary to the foster or adoption team leads to review, including thoughts on the applicant, their home, information on their pets, training beliefs, etc. This screening is one of the most important deciding factors on whether an application moves into the next steps.

General events volunteer

Volunteer at various events as required. This role does not include planning of events but rather, filling the volunteers roles required on site at the event. Examples of roles include setting up and tearing down for events, checking in attendees (registration), silent auction assistance, merchandise sales, etc.

Transportation volunteer

Requires a vehicle, depending on request, an SUV or truck for certain requests. Transportation events can be taking foster dogs to medical appointments or adoption day events if the foster home is not available to do so, picking up of supplies from our partner locations and taking them to our storage warehouse or picking up supplies required for an event and transporting them to and from the event, etc.
